The Driving Tests

The Driving Test is in two parts, the Theory Test and the Practical Test. You can take the Theory Test at any time after you have got your provisional licence, but you must pass the Theory Test before you can apply for the Practical Test. In Worcester, the Theory Test Centre is on St Nicholas Street. The Practical Test Centre is on Stanier Road - behind the Poacher's Pocket at Warndon.

If you learn to drive with me, you take your Practical Test in my car so that you are already very familiar with the car and its controls.

I will advise you on when to apply for the tests. I offer my pupils a free test booking service - you just pay me the Test Fee.

Theory Test

The Theory Test is made up of two parts, both are taken on a computer touch screen. You can have a few minutes practicing each before you start. You can use headphones to help if you wish, and a number of different languages are available.

Part One consists of 50 multiple choice questions and you must get at least 43 correct. There's a number of different books and CDs available, and I can guide you on how to study when you start your lessons with me. In addition, I have a number of Worksheets to help my pupils.

Part Two is the Hazard Perception Test. You will watch 14 video clips, each lasting about a minute. There will be 15 hazards (one clip has two hazards on it). You score points by clicking a mouse button  to show that you have seen the hazard developing. You must score at least 44 out of a possible 75 points.

I can provide tuition for both parts of the theory test, and there are CDs and DVDs available for practicing on your own. In any case, I teach Hazard Perception as a part of the driving syllabus and many of my pupils have passed first time without having access to their own computer.

Practical Test

The Practical Test lasts about 40 Minutes. You will be asked to drive safely, carry out two manoeuvres and demonstrate, by the way you drive an understanding of the rules of the road. You may be asked to carry out a Controlled Stop (used to be called an Emergency Stop). In addition, at the beginning of the test, you will be asked two questions about safety checks.

As you drive round, the examiner will mark a sheet with any errors you make. You must not make any serious or dangerous errors, but you are allowed up to 15 general driving errors. The difference between serious and other errors will become clear to you as your lessons progress.

At the end of your test, the examiner will work out the result and let you know straight away whether you have passed or not.
